What is Haematology?

Haematology is a branch of medicine dealing with the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and investigation of disorders of the haematopoietic, haemostatic, and lymphatic systems and disorders of the interaction between blood and blood vessel wall.

Who and when should we seek help?

Individuals with malignant and non-malignant haematological condition.  Malignant condition includes leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and myeloproliferative neoplasm. Non-malignant condition includes anaemia, venous-thromboembolism, haemoglobinopathies eg. Thalassaemia and bleeding disorder.  

What are the treatments offered?

Treatment will depends on the underlying disease.  Among them will include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, intravenous iron infusion, iron chelation, blood transfusion and haematopoietic stem cell transplant.

Surgery Procedures
Some haematological condition might need bone marrow aspirate and trephine (BMAT) biopsy for diagnosis.
