KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 — Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) is providing patients from government hospitals the opportunity to receive treatments from the hospital at a discounted rate in an effort to make quality health care more accessible.

Patients who have a referral letter from government hospitals can opt to start or continue their treatment at SMCV and enjoy a 40 per cent discount on their hospital bills, from now until the end of the year.

In the past year, government hospitals have been inundated with treating both Covid-19 and non Covid-19 patients in a bid to flatten the curve. This has led to a delay in non Covid-19 patients from receiving treatment when they needed it the most, which may further exacerbate their conditions.

Recognising this problem, SMCV has decided to embark on this programme to allow patients to seek out necessary treatments in a timelier manner.

“We believe that every individual should have access to affordable health care, so they are able to live their lives to the fullest. This initiative will provide us with the opportunity to make private health care more accessible and reduce the waiting time in receiving critical care for their conditions,” said Derrick Chan, SMCV CEO.

Dr Wee Tong Ming, SMCV’s Medical Director and Emergency Physician also emphasises the importance of seeking early medical assistance when patients are experiencing symptoms to avoid any further complications.

“We cannot stress enough how important it is for patients to seek the medical help they need, and to also carry on with their regular check-ups to manage their health and respective conditions. We would like to encourage those in need of medical aid to not delay in reaching out to us as we want to make sure that every patient is able to get the treatment they deserve, without having to put a strain on their financial conditions. These patients will have full access to our hospital services and multidisciplinary teams according to their needs, from cardiology, neurology to paediatric services,” said Dr Wee.

Patients who choose to undertake this aid only need to present a referral letter from the government hospital to SMCV, who will then assess and evaluate the treatment required accordingly.

Once approved, the patient can proceed to continue necessary treatment and receive the best care from SMCV consultants.

SMCV is a firm advocate of providing accessible health care, even more so during these times when cost and safety are the concerns of many.

While there may still exist barriers for certain individuals to access critical health care services, SMCV will continue to be a dedicated health care partner for the community and will work with Malaysians towards the goal of achieving full, healthy and enriching lives.
